Lumas Gallery Brussels

" To collect photographs is to collect the world." - Susan Sontag
As you probably know I've attended tonight an exclusive opening at the first Lumas gallery in Belgium. Now probably you wonder why I would choose such a subject for my usual fashion related posts. Well, the thing is that I truly believe that fashion is, in fact, art, that the very base of fashion is art and so, fashion designers are also creators of art. That and the fact that I've recently joined some photography courses encouraged me to join this "little soirée" where I can learn more of this particular art.
The official opening of the gallery will be held on the 18th of January, so I believe that all those who love photography and search for good, accessible prices, will have to attend. :)

The place became crowded within minutes after my arrival and I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people interested in what the gallery has to offer. Well, frankly I couldn't blame them cause even though I don't understand art from a professional level, I loved most of the pieces and I wouldn't mind seeing them in my home. :)
Here are some of my personal favorites:

Plus that they had some photographs of my favorite "vintage" (to say so) style icons like Marylin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn or Sophia Loren, which as I said before, brings us closer to the fashionable part of the article. :)

One other thing I liked so much about the gallery is that it has a "home" concept, meaning that every room of the place represents an actual room of the house, like the living room, the kitchen, etc. So it gives you more or less an idea of how your chosen photograph would look chez toi ( at your place). I found this very interesting and it really gives you a cozy felling when you visit the gallery, unlike the cold non-personal impression a museum transmits.

And last, but not least, this was a very special opening because one of the artists was present there to greet you. His name is Mikhail Porollo, and yes, you probably know him from his famous project "Perfection of Form", which really opened my eyes, to say so, on the perfect symmetry of the geometric forms that some buildings have. The amount of details that he captured in just one photograph is simply amazing and re-viewing the photos now, at home, really gives you the impression of hypnotism. That's how well and exact they've been captured by the artistic eye of Mr. Porollo.

My personal favorite is the Sagrada Familia (Barcelona), which sadly, isn't exposed at the Lumas Gallery, but from the ones that are there, I can say that the one representing the Berlin Cathedral is my favorite. Maybe it's because of the colors, the design and again, the perfect symmetry the artist captured in a perfect photo.
I was lucky enough to have a "piece of the puzzle" signed by the artist :).

So, this is what the Lumas Gallery does, it brings different works of art done by more than 160 artists from all around the globe into one place, a place accessible to the public, where their eternal art can be even purchased.
Naturally, Lumas has 27 galleries all around the world and the one that just arrived in Brussels was in a state of project for a long time now, as the founder, Stefanie Harig, states.
Well, we're very happy you guys brought such a interesting concept to the Capital of Europe and we're pleased to have you.

That being said, I'll let you discover the rest on your own if you ever have the chance to pass through Brussels. ;)

  2. Looks like a wonderful gallery. I agree that fashion is art and designers definitely draw inspiration from everything they come into contact with!

  3. Bonjour,

Le probmème c'est que c'est pas du tout représentatif de Bruxelles; Genre je vais dans une basilique et je fais des photos à l'intérieur. Bruxelles c'est autre chose...

Day at the office

Hi guys, Can you imagine that we've already arrived at the middle of the week? I know most of you work at the office and indeed, sometimes it gets lonely having to stay at home and not having a closet packed with office clothes, but I still wanted to show off a really cute office look that I personally would wear to work !  Since my Manfield shoes have a 70s vibe to them, I thought I should add a more feminine touch in the upper part of my outfit, just to sweeten the deal. Now these shoes can be worn in many ways and you can definitely play on the masculine style and wear them with a pair of pants, in a know, go full rogue in that direction. But here, I wanted to build a softer look. The shiny leather is quite an unique touch to the shoes and the thick heel makes them a comfortable pair of shoes that you can actually walk in and stay all day at the office. Add a pencil skirt, a pair of tights and an envelope clutch and you're good to go for this Fall !

What I wore:

Blue bow
